IMPLANTS
Abundance of bone in the area scheduled to receive dental implants is a very important precondition for their success and long-term survival. In cases of hortizontal and vertical bone deficiencies (bone width and bone height) augmentation procedures are needed in order to increase the bone availability.
The majority of such procedures involve the use of particulated bone graft which is placed in the deficient area and maintained there by the use of resorbable and non resorbable membranes.
Bone grafts may be of different origins. Autogenous grafts originate from the same patient and are harvested from an intraoral site (with an overabundance of bone) at the same time of the augmentation procedure. Another type of grafts; allogenic and xenogenic grafts, originate from different persons/species and are available from different companies in the form of sterile packaged products.
In order to maximize the results of our augmentation procedures, unless contraindicated, we typically use a combination of the above grafts. Similar to other dental procedures, bone augmentation procedures are performed in a completely painless manner with the use of local anesthesia.
